What happens if my own car doesn't meet the handbrake rule?
VicRoads will turn your test away if the vehicle doesn’t meet the required conditions. Hiring a dual control car avoids this specific issue, since dual control vehicles are exempt from the standard handbrake requirement.
Can I hire the car without booking a lesson as well?
Yes. The hire covers the car for your test appointment on its own. A short lesson beforehand is available if you’d like one, but it’s not compulsory.
